The Ted Taylor Chorus & Orchestra - Best Of The Football Themes

A must for any obsessive footie fan - especially English football (Ron Manager probably has this in his record collection and listens to it on a daily basis), Ted Taylor's Best Of The Football Themes is a roaring, non-stop soccer party featuring a rousing collection of anthemic footie favourites interspersed with commentary and the sound of the crowd. They don't make 'em like this no more, that's for sure.

Fixed tracks

If you downloaded the superb collections Watch With Teacher and The Day The TV Stood Still, you'll probably be wanting these two tracks. The original rips of the two tracks were messed up (the cds were pretty damn difficult to rip as it happens) - these new rips are fine. Sorry about that and thanks to "pokerface" for letting me know about those tracks.

Some People Are On The Pitch - Songs From Football's Archives

Howay the lads! Come on you 'Bells!
I watched and thoroughly enjoyed The Damned United (the "fiction-based-on-fact" account of Brian Clough's years at Derby and Leeds United) followed by the splendid ITV documentary Clough very recently and I thought - it's about time I put a pure football song comp on t' CosmoBells. And sooooo... Here we have an absolute treat for novelty music fans and also, obviously, the footie fans. This long deleted, highly collectible football song compilation from the same people that bought you the You Are Awful! series is the creme-de-la-creme of football song compilations. Not only do you get gems like West Ham's "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles", Arsenal's "Good Old Arsenal", The Spinners' "Football Crazy", Ennio Morricone's "World Cup Argentina", the football folk of Dave & Toni Arthur's "The Football Match", The Tony Hatch Orchestra's "Theme From Sportsnight", Kop Unlimited's funktastic "Football Hustle" and Leyton Orient's sublime "We The Kings of Orient Are"(!) but you also get the complete 1970 England Football Squad's album The World Beaters Sing The World Beaters featuring classics such as "Back Home", "There'll Always Be An England", "Lovey Dovey", "Lilly The Pink", "Congratulations", "Glory-O", "Cinammon Stick" and "Sugar Sugar"! 'Tis a must for those with a deep football/soccer inclination, so it is... Enjoy!

WBA's Cyrille Regis MBE, the god-like Brian Clough, "Golden Age" Gazza,
"Big Ron" Atkinson aka "Champagne Charlie" and the legendary
Linekar with his tasty bit of "almost-half-his-age" crumpet.
I don't think any of these people appear on this album.

The Morecambe & Wise Show - guest-starring Edward Woodward

As a tribute to the late, great Edward Woodward, here's a treat of an episode of all-time British comedy classic The Morecambe & Wise Show. This is the fourth episode of the second series from 1969. Eric & Ernie are on top-form and there are hilarious guest-appearances from Peter Cushing and Edward Woodward. Cushing returns to the show demanding payment for his last appearance (as the years went by, Cushing would continue to make guest-appearances on various M&W shows demanding his payment!), cue some very funny material:
Cushing: "I was in your show and I never got paid."
Eric: "Sounds like one of our shows!"
Ernie: "You were never in one of our shows."
Cushing: "I can prove I was in one of your shows."
Eric: "Prove it?! How?! How?!"
Cushing: "I would like to show you a short excerpt..."
Eric: "Well you can't - this is a family show, you see!"

Woodward stars in the grand finale - in which he plays a copper (of course!) - in a play wot Eric wrote entitled "Murder At The Grange - or The Mouse Trap". Also in the play, Eric plays a famous conductor - although, for hilarious comedy reasons, he's dressed as the wrong kind of conductor... Other guests on the show include legendary Scottish singer Kenneth McKellar, Irish folk trio The Pattersons and, of course, M&W show bigband regulars Kenny Ball & His Jazzmen.

Rest in peace, Ed. Thanks for all those glorious years of superb cult action television in shows such as Callan and The Equalizer. You'll be greatly missed.

Dr. Who and the Daleks + Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. Original Soundtrack

For the first time ever, here are the complete soundtracks/scores to the colourful 60s' big-screen "Dr. Who"/Dalek movies that starred Peter Cushing as everyone's favourite time-travelling grandfather: Dr. Who! I'm a huge fan of those nutty 60s movies, the second, grittier movie Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. being my fave out of the two (the title's quite a crazy mouthful alone!) which co-starred Bernard Cribbins and Ray "Mister Benn" Brooks ("a man with 'the knack'!" as he was billed on the trailer!). That second movie was, of course, based on the all-time classic Doctor Who story "The Dalek Invasion of Earth". And, as you may or may not know, the late, great Roy Castle co-starred in the first movie. The cute Roberta Tovey starred in both movies as Dr. Who's grand-daughter Susan (check out Who Is Doctor Who? to hear Tovey's hilarious single called "Who's Who").

The package does what it says on the tin - so if you've always wanted the music from these films or are just a keen collector of anything to do with Doctor Who and/or Daleks, then here you are! Personally (and being my good honest self), I found the scores on the most part to be rather bland to listen to without the visuals of the movie to go with it but, all being said, it's great to finally have these things officially released. The thing is, I've never been that much of a fan of standard movie scores that rely on atmospheric orchestral music - I prefer stuff that is a bit more groovy, funky, poppy or experimental. Highlights for me are the title music on both films and, especially, the groovy single "The Eccentric Doctor Who". The thing is, those best tracks I mentioned have already been made available on the superb
Who Is Doctor Who? compilation. So there you are then, this release is a must for Doctor Who fans and those who collect cult movie scores and you'll most likely get a little more enjoyment and satisfaction out of listening to them than I did...

Benny Hill - The Ultimate Collection

So I'm finally back after a few weeks of dead computer mayhem. I have a new pc now (with Windows 7 - which has took some getting used to after years of XP) and I've been busy installing the necessary programs, updating drivers, hardware, etc, so bare with me if I'm not quite up to speed at the moment with the CosmoBells. Everything looks and feels totally different with the new machine which is taking a lot of getting used to.

As a testing-the-waters type thing, here we have a quickie post of a superb collection of comedy tunes (formerly posted way back on the old CosmoBlog) from none other than the all-time comedy genius Benny Hill. The lad himself wrote and/or co-wrote all of the tracks on here - many of which you will most likely know from him performing them on his long-running classic The Benny Hill Show. Many of the tracks parody the old 50s & 60s rock 'n' roll and rockabilly likes of Elvis 'The King' Presley, Marty 'Father of Kim' Wilde, John "Johnny Remember Me" Leyton and Mike "Come Outside" Sarne, to name but four. Personal faves on here include Benny's legendary "Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)" (of course), "Those Days" (a parody of Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe" which features the classic line "How could you kiss the butcher when we owe the milkman so much?"!), "Harvest of Love" (I love the line which goes "I will kiss your lips, those tempting lips - the only ones that can thrill me, And I will hold you tight 'neath the stars so bright - if my wife ever finds out, she'll kill me!") and the similar "Lonely Boy" ("You see her name was Pat - my case comes up next week!"). Naughty but innocent humour that has long since died out.
